Last month Voortman Steel Machinery installed one of the biggest and most automated machine lines in its history. Scotland’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year 2018’, Derek Pierce, is now able to process 1,000 tonnes of steel per week. The Voortman line consists of nine machines, alongside the four machines already in operation at J&D Pierce. The way this project came about and was implemented is an example of an approach based around effective cooperation between several different teams from beginning to end. It demonstrates once again that VSM is able to carry out complex projects involving a high degree of digitisation. Computer models and visualisations were already used in the initial phase of the project. This made it possible to analyse and confirm in advance how the machine line would function and how much it would produce. Once production started it became clear that the simulations were almost entirely accurate and guarantee 100% output. Both Voortman Steel Machinery and J&D Pierce are extremely satisfied with and proud of the end result!
