On Friday 7 and Saturday 8 September the time had come for the Voortman two-day staff association outing! Buses carrying 240 passengers set off in columns to the Bussloo recreation lake where we were welcomed with a cup of coffee and a snack. The helicopters emerged in the distance that would be treating us that day to a breathtaking view of the area around Bussloo.
While the one group explored the surroundings by taking part in a Beetle rally, the other group was out and about with a choice of activities including flying drones, bamboo building or making smoothies. The groups reconvened at the end of the afternoon to have a chat in the glorious sunshine while enjoying a drink and a well-topped hamburger.
We swapped the Bussloo location for the brand-new Van der Valk hotel close by in Apeldoorn. The evening was taken up with a live-cooking buffet after which the day was rounded off in the hotel bar or nearby pubs.
On Saturday it was the turn of the Hanseatic City of Zutphen to rejoice at the arrival of Voortman Steel Group. Zutphen welcomed us with a monuments day and numerous festivities. Guides showed us around the wealth of sights in Zutphen while three bargees showed us the beauty of the river IJssel. During the afternoon we were free to do as we pleased, so we went off shopping or to find a spot in the sun on the terrace. A permanent fixture during the two-day outing is a delicious final meal at de Poppe in Markelo. One and all were thanked for attending and set off home on their return to Rijssen.
The organisers looked back on the outing with a great deal of satisfaction! We are already hard at work in the background with plans for the coming year!
