Graduate Assignment: Conversion from WinForms to WPF

Together with Voortman Steel Construction, Voortman Steel Machinery is part of the Voortman Steel Group and is one of the largest players in the international market. With international subsidiaries, the company is a globally recognized and leading supplier to the steel construction and manufacturing industry. Seeing ideas become reality; that sounds so nice, but it really happens at Voortman Steel Machinery. And then there are groundbreaking ideas. We make the most innovative machines and production lines for the steel construction and sheet metal processing industry. For customers all over the world!

But building a machine or production line is one thing, but actually running it; that is at least as important. The Software Development department lays the foundation for this. They ensure that all individual parts are controlled and work together. The daily work consists of designing, developing and testing software. It concerns high-quality software that ensures that manual actions by the end user are kept to a minimum. We move with the times and are therefore constantly looking for even better faster solutions.

Apply? What are you going to do? Where are you working on? We ask We offer Who are your colleagues?

As a graduate you are given the space to learn and develop yourself, both personally and professionally. You are really part of the team and you can expect all the support from your colleagues. You work independently and dare to show initiative. In addition, you get the freedom and you take the responsibility to organize and carry out your research according to how you like it.

The Voortman welding machines feature numerous dialog for settings, calibration and other user interaction. Some of these dialogs are still build in WinForms technology. We are moving to WPF and web-based techniques for user interaction. We’d like an investigation of the user interaction that is done by the Fabricator a UI/UX investigation so we’ll know how the user interaction is being done and how it can be improved. You will be doing an investigation in user stories, you’ll be interviewing end-users and making a proposal for an improved dialog. The second part of the assignment is implementing the user interaction for these user stories in WPF/MVVM.
